Free EVbox Everon backoffice alternative: Switch to Tap Electric

EVBox will shut down its Everon Service on 1 December, 2025. To avoid losing access to your charger, switch your charger backoffice to Tap’s free charger management platform.
In this guide:

IMPORTANT:

As of October 14th, 2024, EVBox has announced it will close operations. If you have a charger currently managed on the EVBox Everon backoffice, you should switch to a different charger management platform as soon as possible so as not to lose access to your charger. EVBox will shut down its Everon Service on 1 December 2025. Losing access to your charging backoffice means losing the ability to set access tariffs, process payments, monitor usage of your EVBox charger. Tap can help you migrate your EVBox charger to a stable, future-proof management platform.

Why switch your EVbox chargers from EVBox Everon to Tap for charger management?

As an approved EVBox partner, many owners are already using Tap to manage their EVbox chargers. Our platform is built to be hardware-agnostic and, crucially, free for owners with no lock-in contracts and no hidden fees.

1

Way cheaper to run: Tap has zero software costs

Tap lowers your EV charging operational costs. You can migrate, onboard and manage an unlimited number of EVbox chargers without any fees or ongoing subscription costs, maximising your revenue. Instead, when drivers use the Tap app to use your chargers, we add a transaction fee to the driver’s rate. Drivers can choose to lower this transaction fee to 0% with a Tap subscription.

2

Way easier to use: EVbox compatible, fast onboarding and built-in automation

We have created a user-friendly EVbox onboarding guide to help you connect any OCPP 1.6 compliant EVBox charger to Tap. We guide you step-by-step on how to change the OCPP URL on your EVBox charger so it points to the Tap Electric backoffice. Switching your EVbox chargers from EVBox Everon to Tap only takes a few minutes, ensuring minimal downtime for your drivers and continuous access to your charging data.

Once your chargers are onboarded to Tap, you have full control over your chargers. You can remotely set access and tariffs, and we’ll automate your billing and payments.

3

Way better for drivers: user-friendly EV charging app with 24/7 session support

Whether you’re providing chargers for employees, residents or the general public, our driver-first charging app makes charging fully transparent and easy.

  • Clear, upfront pricing before you plug in
  • Remotely start and stop sessions via the app
  • Track charge session cost, energy consumption and power in real-time

Advanced energy management with Charge AI

For sites with multiple EVBox chargers, you may need to manage local grid capacity and energy costs. Tap’s Charge AI offers advanced energy management features:

  • Static Load Balancing (free): You can safely distribute charging power among connected chargers without exceeding your site’s physical limits.
  • Dynamic Load Balancing (premium add-on): Automatically monitor your total building consumption and solar loads and dynamically allocate power to the chargers, maximising charging speed while avoiding peak demand fees and costly infrastructure upgrades.
  • Dynamic tariff optimiser (free): If you have a home variable energy contract, Charge AI ensures your chargers prioritise charging at the cheapest moments of the day. Now available in The Netherlands and Belgium, and coming soon to the UK.

Why can’t I keep using EVBox Everon?

The parent company of EVBox, the French energy giant Engie, has announced the wind-down and eventual closure of the Everon backoffice platform and most of its charging business across Europe from December 1, 2025. This decision was driven by significant financial losses incurred since its acquisition. The closure of the EVBox Everon platform means that all its services—including monitoring, payment processing, and remote management—will cease operating by the announced deadline of December 1st.

Crucially, if you do not migrate your charger to a new platform before the closure date, your EVBox charging station will be deactivated. This results in the loss of all online functionalities, including the ability to:

  • Process payments from your drivers, eliminating your monetisation stream.
  • Remotely monitor charger status and usage.
Access charging history data for invoicing or reimbursement.
  • Support charge cards/free usage keys (it may revert to a limited ‘Autostart’ mode, if available, but without centralised management).

To ensure the continued online functionality and monetisation of your EVBox chargers, you need to migrate to an OCPP-compliant Charge Point Management System (CSMS) like Tap Electric now.

You can connect any newer generation EVbox charger to our platform for free. Tip: a good indication if your charger is newer generation is if you can connect to it using the EVBox Connect app.

These include:

  • EVBox Elvi
  • EVBox BusinessLine (4th generation)
  • EVBox Troniq 50
  • EVBox Troniq Modular
  • EVBox Ultroniq

OCPP is an open and widely adopted communication standard for cloud-to charger communication between a management system and a charger. Think of it as a common language for chargers and central management systems to exchange information and commands that cover aspects of charging like status updates, transaction information, and charger configuration. If you have OCPP-compliant hardware, you can switch to another software that better meets your charging needs at any time.

It doesn’t cost you anything to manage your chargers on Tap. When drivers use the Tap app to use your chargers, we add a transaction fee to the driver’s rate. This starts at 10% for those who use the pay-as-you-go option. Drivers who choose to subscribe to Tap can lower this transaction fee to 0%, depending on their chosen plan.

You will always receive the full tariff you set in Tap’s charger management platform. In the Tap app, drivers see the final rate (which includes our transaction fee) upfront before they begin charging. It’s a clear and transparent pricing model—no hidden costs for anyone!

Onboarding your charger to Tap typically takes less than 15 minutes. We recommend performing the migration during off-peak hours to minimise your downtime for your drivers and ensure continuous operation of your EVBox chargers. Our step-by-step guides and chat can help you troubleshoot with expert phone support available if needed.

Yes. Tap provides powerful Fleet Management software for workplaces – from sole proprietors with 1 vehicle to large fleets with thousands. This includes charging at work, in public, and full support for split billing (home reimbursement). The latter allows your business to automatically track and pay for your employees’ home charging. Fleets do not pay any fees to host chargers, but a, low monthly fee per driver/vehicle for all charging activities. There’s no contracts, no lock-in and no hidden fees.

Yes. We offer AI-powered Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB) for sites with complex energy management needs including chargers, buildings, and on-site renewables. Tap’s Charge AI dynamically adjusts power distribution based on demand, site capacity, and crucially, individual driver needs. Unlike traditional DLB that treats all sessions equally, our “driver-first” priority engine intelligently prioritises faster charging requests or those with specific departure times. This prevents circuit overloads, avoids peak power penalties, and saves you money on expensive grid upgrades.

Tap does not charge any monthly licence or startup fees. We charge a service fee to the driver, and that’s it.
