What is Map Intel?
Map Intel is the most comprehensive charger comparison tool on the market, and it’s completely free for anyone to use.
Analyse any area on the Tap map to know:
- The average cost to charge
- Which charger networks you can use
- Which charger network has the cheapest average cost
- How many chargers there are and their charging speeds
Why did we build Map Intel?
There are hundreds of thousands of public chargers out there. We’re here to help you make decisions about which is the best charger for you to use at any time.
With Tap, you already see clear, real-time information around pricing, availability, and power before you charge with us.
This covers the basic price transparency mandated by the EU: that prices can be easily found by drivers before their session, and that the final price must reflect the prices that were shown to the driver beforehand.
But here at Tap, we ask: why stop there? We’re setting a new standard for EV charging price transparency that drivers need and deserve.
That’s why we build comparison tools like Price Intel and Map Intel to make it even easier for drivers to answer:
- How much does it cost to charge here?
- Is this charger price fair?
- Can I save by choosing a cheaper charger nearby?
- Am I getting the best value for money using this charge card or charger network?
Anyone can use Map Intel, whether you’re:
- Thinking of switching to an EV and want to know how much you could pay for charging before you buy
- Visiting a friend and you want to quickly compare charging costs between different cities along your route
- Travelling to new cities frequently for work and want to know if costs change depending on the network you choose to use
- Moving to a new neighbourhood, and want to know how your cost of charging will change
- Going on holiday and want to know which chargers to look out for at your destination
How did we build Map Intel?
We mapped out the number of chargers and charger prices for every 70 by 70 meter area in every country where you can charge with Tap.
From there we spent a lot of time looking at all the charger data – the number of chargers, charging speed, charger networks, and especially pricing.
Â
For a fair comparison, we show you average costs data based on a session. While on most chargers you pay a price per kWh, there are chargers with complex pricing. This means that aside from the price per kWh, you may also pay an idle price when your car is not charging anymore and is still plugged and / or hourly price for every hour that your car is plugged into the charger. Whether it’s simple or complex, prices can also be variable and change throughout a session. By using average session costs, we show you the true cost of charging, not just the cost of energy.
To make sure that you see the most reliable charger information, we only include chargers that send us real-time, complete data in our charging insights.
Map Intel is just one of the reasons why drivers prefer using the Tap map.
