Free alternative to EO Charging, switch to Tap Electric

In this guide:

Important:

EO Charging recently entered administration and parts of the business have since been acquired by Pod.

During this transition, some businesses may be reviewing alternative charging management platforms for long-term operational flexibility and continued access to their charging infrastructure, charging data, and energy management.

Do you currently manage a charging station or fleet via EO Cloud? Then it may be worth considering an alternative management platform to maintain long-term flexibility and continued access to your charging infrastructure. Tap Electric makes switching easy.

Why switch from EO Charging to Tap Electric?

Our platform is completely hardware-free, and, more importantly, free of cost for charger owners. That means:

  • no mandatory hardware replacement,
  • no contracts,
  • and no monthly licence fees.

1

Keep your existing charging infrastucture

All OCPP-compatible chargers can be connected to Tap Electric without replacing existing hardware. This allows you to continue operating your charging infrastructure while avoiding unnecessary replacement costs and operational downtime.

2

More user-friendly charger management

Switching from EO Cloud to Tap takes just a few minutes. We have created a simple step-by-step guide to help you connect any OCPP 1.6-compatible EO charging stations to Tap.

This way, you limit downtime for your EV drivers and retain direct access to all your charging data. As soon as your chargers are connected, you manage your charging infrastructure remotely through Tap Electric’s platform. With Tap you can monitor charger availability, charging sessions, user access, and charging activity across locations.

You can also configure RFID access, charging permissions, pricing settings, smart charging schedules

Frequently asked questions

Why should I consider an alternative to EO Charging?

EO Charging recently entered administration and parts of the business have since been acquired by Pod. Some businesses may therefore be reviewing alternative charging management platforms to ensure long-term flexibility and continued access to their charging infrastructure, charging data, and energy management tools.

Migrating to an OCPP-compatible platform like Tap Electric can help reduce dependency on a single provider while maintaining remote charger management and operational control.

Just like Tap Electric, EO charging supported OCPP-compliant chargers, making migration to Tap possible without having to replace existing hardware.

Tap Tip: If you have an EO-manufactured charger, you can easily migrate it to Tap Electric’s free charger management platform using our step-by-step onboarding guide.

Migrating your charger from EO charging to Tap Electric’s charger management platform usually takes less than 15 minutes. We recommend performing the migration during off-peak hours so that your EV drivers are not inconvenienced and your chargers remain continuously available. Our step-by-step guides and 24/7 chat support will help you get started immediately. If you need extra help, you can always count on telephone support from our experts.

No, there are no costs associated with migrating your chargers to Tap. Our charger management platform is generally free for charger owners. Some premium features (such as fleet management or dynamic load balancing) are available at a small monthly price, but this is not necessary to benefit from managing your charger with Tap.

Absolutely nothing. Managing your chargers in Tap is free for the charger owner. When EV drivers use your chargers via the Tap app, we add a small transaction fee to the driver’s charging rate. This starts at 10% for users who pay per session (pay-as-you-go). EV drivers with a Tap subscription can reduce these costs to 0%, depending on their chosen plan.

At Tap, fleet management is a premium option, but we offer several plans for fleet managers of all sizes and needs, starting at £3.50 per month per driver or vehicle. Fleet management at Tap allows you to manage all EV drivers from one account, easily include employee home chargers and monitor them, and track expenses with a single monthly invoice all in one place.

Certainly. Tap offers AI-driven Dynamic Load Balancing (DLB) as a premium feature for locations with complex energy demand, such as combinations of chargers, buildings, and solar panels. Tap’s Charge AI intelligently distributes available power based on total demand, capacity, and the needs of individual drivers. Unlike traditional DLB systems that treat all sessions equally, Tap uses a driver-first algorithm that prioritizes faster charging sessions or drivers with a scheduled departure time. This prevents overloading, avoids peak consumption costs, and saves on expensive grid reinforcement. Tap’s DLB premium feature incurs a monthly cost of £2.00 per month/per charger and is currently only supported on chargers with the Charge-m8 Libra meter.

OCPP 1.6 is an open and widely accepted communication standard for cloud-to-charge station communication between a management system and a charge station. Think of it as a common language that allows charge stations and central management systems to exchange information and commands regarding matters such as status updates, transaction information, and charge station configuration.
